New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging large-scale deletion of voters from Congress strongholds in Karnataka during the 2023 Assembly elections.
According to Gandhi, the voter IDs were removed using fake logins and mobile numbers registered from outside the state. He further claimed the operation was not manual but executed through software, pointing to what he called a “systematic assault” on democracy.
Targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said the Karnataka CID had written 18 letters to the poll body in the past 18 months, seeking crucial details like the destination IP addresses of devices used for the deletions and OTP trails. “The ECI is refusing to provide this information because it will expose where the operation is being conducted from. This is absolute proof that Gyanesh Kumar is protecting those behind it,” he alleged.
Brandishing a copy of the Constitution, Gandhi appealed to the youth, warning that their future was at stake. “They are attacking this, and this is your future. By hiding information, they are defending the murderers of our democracy. Your jobs, your future, your aspirations all come from this,” he said.
