New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has termed US President Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods as “economic blackmail”, urging PM Modi not to compromise national interest.
“Trump’s tariff is an attempt to bully India into an unfair trade deal. PM Modi must not let his weakness override the interests of the Indian people,” Gandhi posted on X.
The Congress has submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha demanding a discussion, calling the US move politically motivated. Congress MP Hibi Eden warned of severe impact on marine exports, especially the shrimp industry, and urged the government to launch an Export Promotion Mission and extend financial support to affected exporters.
