RAIA: Deputy Sarpanch of Raia Village Panchayat, Godfray Oswald Souza, was voted out of office following the successful passage of a No Confidence Motion during a specially convened meeting on Monday.
The meeting, overseen by an observer appointed by the Block Development Officer (BDO), witnessed a narrow 6-5 vote in favour of the motion. Out of the 11 panchayat members, six voted for Souza’s removal, while five opposed the move.
Those backing the motion included Antonio Xavier Fernandes, Judas M. Quadros, Peter Quadros, Manuel Rodrigues, Minguelina P. D’Souza, and Queneey D’cunha e D’costa.
Voting against the motion were Sarpanch Mario D’Souza, Jacinta Dias, Cynthia Fernandes, Trifiono Cardozo, and Godfray Oswald Souza himself.
The outcome reflects a sharp division within the local governing body and marks a significant shift in the panchayat’s leadership dynamics.
