PANVEL: Prompt action by railway staff helped foil a theft onboard Train No. 11004 Tutari Express, with two accused being apprehended and later handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Panvel.
According to a press release issued by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), the incident occurred at around 4:30 am on February 16 after the train crossed Roha station. During ticket checking in Coaches S2, S3 and S4, TTE Sachin Savekar of Ratnagiri noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously in Coach S2.
Acting swiftly and with the support of alert co-passengers, Savekar detained the suspects and separated them for inquiry. Upon questioning, it was revealed that the duo had stolen a handbag belonging to a female passenger.
Railway staff recovered a mangalsutra, two sets of earrings, ₹4,750 in cash and a mobile phone from the accused. One ring reported missing by the passenger could not be recovered.
The accused were subsequently handed over to the RPF at Panvel for further legal action.
In recognition of the vigilance and dedication displayed in detecting the offence and ensuring passenger safety, KRCL Chairman and Managing Director Santosh Kumar Jha has sanctioned a cash reward of ₹10,000 to TTE Sachin Savekar.
Konkan Railway reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and urged travellers to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to railway staff or RPF personnel.
