MORMUGAO: A 47-year-old railway worker, Anand Naik, a resident of Guirim, Mapusa, succumbed to his injuries at Goa Medical College, Bambolim, after being involved in a train accident at Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) premises.
According to the police, the incident occurred on April 29 at around 3.30 pm when Naik was on duty at the RND Yard near MPA Gate No. 9. Preliminary enquiry suggests he may have accidentally come in contact with a moving train on Track No. 4, resulting in severe injuries to his right arm.
Naik was initially rushed to Sub District Hospital, Chicalim, and later shifted to GMC, Bambolim, for further treatment. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment.
Following a wireless intimation from the casualty ward at GMC, Mormugao police visited the hospital and conducted an inquest panchanama over the deceased’s body. The body was then sent for postmortem, which was conducted by a police surgeon. The cause of death was certified as “Septicemia and shock in a person undergoing medical and surgical treatment due to extensive soft tissue injury to right arm consequent to blunt force impact by surface and/or object(s).”
The body has been handed over to the family for final rites. Mormugao police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The enquiry is being carried out by PSI Vaishnavi Desai under the supervision of PI Sherif Jacques and guidance of DySP Gurudas Kadam.
