PANAJI: Following the red alert issued in the State by IMD, Goa was lashed by heavy rains in last couple of days and has wreaked havoc in Quepem taluka.
On Monday itself 22 mm of rain was recorded in Quepem-Curchorem area.
The heavy rains threw the normal life of gear with many places water-logged. Fields and drainage were also seen flooded.
Sources said there has been sharp increase in water level of Kushwati river.
Local said that the heavy rains was due to change in climatic condition.
Xeldem panchayat secretary said that despite pre-monsoon work was completed in time but still there has been flooding in many places.
“We have already informed the higher authorities about the damages caused,” he said.
A local from Ambaulim Joao Fernandes said this is just start of monsoon rain.
“It is predicted that this year there will be more rainfall and same as last year where the early rain had resulted in grounding of lot of weeds n the field which causes inconvenience and loses to the farmers,” he said.
He said the early rainfall has also affected the harvesting of some of the paddy field, mangoes, cashew, jack fruit.
Deputy Collector Quepem Nilesh Daigodhkar said that nodal officers have been appointed in every department.
“In case of any issues, people may contact the control room and rodal officers,” Daigodkar said.
