New Delhi: Rajasthan Regals were crowned champions of the inaugural edition of PGTI’s 72 The League after delivering a commanding 12–3 victory over table toppers UP Prometheans in the final. The triumph marked a strong comeback for the Regals, who had earlier suffered a heavy defeat against the same opponents during the league stage.
Having qualified for the final as the second placed team, the Regals produced a dominant performance to overturn their earlier loss and secure the title. The winning side was awarded the championship trophy along with prize money of Rs 1 crore, while the runners up received Rs 50 lakh.
UP Prometheans began the final by fielding their strongest singles lineup, placing unbeaten captain Shaurya Bhattacharya and Arjun Prasad at the top. However, the strategy was quickly disrupted as Rajasthan Regals delivered impressive victories in the opening matches.
Jairaj Singh Sandhu defeated Bhattacharya with a convincing 4 and 3 result, while Akshay Sharma overcame Prasad with a 2 and 1 victory. These early wins gave the Regals strong momentum in the final.
With only one more win required to secure the championship, the Regals sealed the title when Aryaman Mohan and Yuvraj Singh defeated the pair of Joshua Seale and Arjun Sharma on the 18th hole. Mohan delivered the decisive putt on the final hole to confirm the victory for his team.
In the remaining fourball contests, Regals captain Ajeetesh Sandhu experienced his first defeat of the tournament while playing alongside Michele Ortolani. However, Chikkarangappa S and Dhruv Sheoran completed the final scoreline with a 2 and 1 win over Gaurav Pratap Singh and Pranav Mardikar.
Following the victory, captain Ajeetesh Sandhu praised the team’s unity and depth, highlighting the strong chemistry among the players since the beginning of the tournament.
In the Plate Championship, Charminar Champions finished as winners.
