New Delhi: Ranveer Allahbadia, a prominent YouTuber and influencer, has faced intense backlash and legal challenges due to a controversial segment aired on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent.’ The incident not only sparked widespread public outrage but has also taken a significant toll on Allahbadia’s mental health, finances, and professional standing.
The controversy began when an FIR was filed against Ranveer Allahbadia along with comedian Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, influencer Apoorva Mukhija, and Jaspreet Singh following a segment from the now-deleted show that featured a sexually explicit question involving parents. This segment led to multiple FIRs and investigations by police authorities in Maharashtra and Assam, with the National Human Rights Commission also expressing concern over its potential harm to minors. Public and political voices condemned the content, prompting YouTube to remove the episode in question.
Ranveer Allahbadia revealed through an Instagram Q&A that the fallout from the controversy severely affected his health, finances, reputation, and family relationships, stating that it also disappointed his parents and let down his professional team. He candidly shared his biggest fear was having jeopardized the livelihoods of over 300 people connected to his work. Allahbadia described the experience as a harsh lesson in human nature and emphasized the importance of resilience, noting that he continues to strive forward despite not being fully recovered emotionally.
In response to the backlash, Samay Raina removed all episodes of ‘India’s Got Latent’ from his YouTube channel and pledged full cooperation with the authorities. Both Allahbadia and Raina recently appeared before Maharashtra Cyber Police for questioning under charges related to obscenity laws.
Ranveer Allahbadia publicly apologized for his remarks, admitting that comedy was not his strength, and sought legal protection against coercive actions stemming from the multiple FIRs filed against him. Reflecting on the ordeal, he highlighted the value of maintaining a calm mind through practices like yoga during difficult times and indicated that much has been occurring “behind the scenes,” maintaining faith in his eventual restoration.
