PONDA: The Health Department has reported a rare case of the Naru worm (Guinea worm) infection in the Nagzar area of Ponda, prompting swift preventive measures to curb any possible spread.
Health officials have begun collecting samples for laboratory testing and disinfecting the surrounding areas as part of containment efforts.
Residents in the locality have been urged to drink only boiled water, maintain strict cleanliness, and avoid open defecation.
People experiencing symptoms such as stomach pain, fever, or loose motions have been advised to immediately visit the Ponda Sub-District Hospital or the nearest Community Health Centre or hospital for examination and treatment.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane confirmed the report, stating, “The Health Department is fully alert and has taken all precautionary measures to ensure there is no spread of infection. Surveillance and awareness drives are being carried out in and around the affected area to protect public health.”
Rane further appealed to the public to remain calm but vigilant and to strictly follow hygiene and water safety measures.
The Health Department continues to monitor the situation closely while conducting awareness campaigns to educate residents on preventive steps.
