PANAJI: Panaji Police have registered an offence in connection with a road accident reported on the Old Mandovi Bridge in Panaji that left three persons injured.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 14, 2026 at around 11:45 am based on a state complaint filed by HC Satish G. Maje (B. No. 5256) of Panaji Police Station following a preliminary inquiry into Panaji PS MV Accident No. 36/26 dated March 14.
As per the complaint, the accused, identified as Abhay Pratap (26), son of Devendra Kumar and a native of K-75, Bhim Vihar, Joharipur, Seelampur, North East Delhi, was riding an uninsured Honda Activa scooter bearing registration number GA-07-AE-1573 from Panaji towards Porvorim.
When he reached the Old Mandovi Bridge, the accused allegedly drove the scooter in a rash and negligent manner and entered the wrong lane, colliding head-on with an oncoming Yamaha Fascino scooter (GA-03-AG-7213) that was travelling from Porvorim towards Panaji.
The collision resulted in grievous injuries to the right leg and right hand of the victim riding the Yamaha Fascino. The pillion rider on the accused’s scooter, identified as Deelip Kumar, sustained simple injuries, while the accused Abhay Pratap himself suffered grievous injury to his right hand.
Police have registered an offence under Sections 281 and 125 (a)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 196 and Rule 18(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act against the accused.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by HC Satish G. Maje of Panaji Police Station.
