BENAULIM: A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered at Colva Police Station following a late-night road accident near Benaulim.
As per the state complaint filed by HC-4768 Sameer Shet Marathe, the incident occurred on January 21, 2026, at around 11.10 pm. The accused driver, identified as Valanco Alston Barbosa, a resident of Dagwal, Raia, was driving a Skoda car from Varca towards Benaulim in a rash and negligent manner, allegedly without taking due care and caution.
On reaching near the “Shop N Save” supermarket at Benaulim, the accused reportedly drove onto the wrong side of the road and dashed into an oncoming Pulsar motorcycle. After the initial collision, the car further rammed into a vegetable kiosk situated on the right side of the road near the supermarket.
Due to the impact, the rider of the Pulsar motorcycle, Joshua Ashlan D’Souza, a resident of Reprowaddo, Varca, sustained grievous injuries. The pillion rider, Jaden Menezes of Razwaddo, Varca, fell onto the road and suffered injuries.
Police have registered an offence in the matter, and further investigation is being carried out by HC-4768 Sameer Shet Marathe of Colva Police Station.
