PANAJI: Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh Goa President Madhu Naik said he was disappointed that the government had not complied with their long-standing requests, which included being granted preference in postgraduate clinical courses at Goa Medical College (GMC).
Naik met with Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar to discuss their concerns, accompanied by a delegation headed by former Union Minister Shrinivas Goud. Shirodkar promised the group during the meeting that he would discuss the issue with Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.
In order to guarantee justice for the Bahujan communities in the state, Naik emphasized to the media the necessity of a caste census in Goa, analogous to the one carried out in Bihar.
A 100-point roster-based reservation in postgraduate courses for OBC, Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Scheduled Caste (SC) students at Goa Medical College and Goa Dental College, Bambolim, is one of the urgent needs listed by the delegation.
Creation of an OBC Welfare Ministry in Goa, modeled after the OBC Ministry in Maharashtra, which was established in 2017 in response to the Rashtriya OBC Mahasangh’s demands.
The Ministry of Social Justice, Government of India, has already set aside Rs 15 crore for the establishment of OBC Boys’ and Girls’ Hostels on the Goa University campus, as well as the construction of an OBC Bhavan as part of welfare programs.
In addition, they sought approval of Rs 20,000 for the last ceremonies and ceremonies for 18 OBC communities, including the Bhandari Kharvi, who are not included in the current allowances given to the OBC Dhangar, ST, and SC communities.
These requests are among 14 other problems that are still pending with the Goa government.
