In a shocking development, the State has reported total of 506 new COVID19 positive cases on Sunday with one more death.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, addressing a press conference, said that the State has Goa reported the single-day largest surge in cases with 506 people testing positive for the virus.
“Coming 60 days are going to be crucial for the State on COVID,” he said.
To meet the increasing pressure on COVID Hospital at ESI Ponda, the State has decided to convert the Ponda sub-district hospital as the COVID hospital.
“The Health department and the GMC will take charge of Ponda sub district hospital within 48 hours; to be converted into second dedicated COVID hospital; specialist from private sector also to be roped in,” he said.
He said the State has also made available antigen testing in all hospitals; it has already commenced in South Goa district hospital.
On the progress in plasma therapy, he said there is improvement in the patients.
“Seven out of 10 people who have been treated with plasmatherapy are showing signs of improvement,” he said.
Following rise in COVID 19 cases in the Goa Medial college the State government has decided to suspend operations of non-emergency OPDs in GMC and other government run hospitals.
Only emergency patients will be attended to in the GMC OPD on appointments, he said.
