New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking in Thimphu during his two-day visit to Bhutan, said that those behind the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort would face strict accountability. The explosion, which tore through a slow-moving Hyundai i20 at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, killed nine people and injured around 20 others.
Addressing the incident, the Prime Minister said he arrived in Bhutan with a heavy heart, adding that the entire nation shares the grief of the affected families. He noted that he remained in constant contact with investigative agencies through the night and assured that every lead will be pursued until the conspiracy is fully uncovered.
In a separate message, he expressed condolences for the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured. He said that authorities were assisting those affected and that he had reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah and senior officials.
The Home Minister has briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of the investigation. Senior officials from the Delhi Police, the National Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau continue to provide updates as the probe expands. Multiple states, including Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, have been placed on high alert.
The blast occurred at 6.52 pm and left several vehicles mangled, scattering debris across one of the busiest zones in the capital. The incident coincided with the discovery of nearly 2900 kilograms of suspected explosives in Faridabad, heightening concerns across security agencies.
According to the Home Minister, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch reached the site within ten minutes of receiving the first alert. Units from the NSG, NIA and forensic departments later joined them. Orders have been issued to review all CCTV footage in the vicinity and examine every possible angle.
Shah said investigators will conduct a comprehensive and transparent probe. He confirmed he would visit the blast site and then proceed to LNJP Hospital to meet the injured and review their treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the source, motive and networks connected to the attack as security measures tighten across the region.
