CURTORIM:
After dormer Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro’s exit from the Congress last week, the grand old party may receive another jolt this week with Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco all set to join the Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa.
Sources said that Reginald will resign as an MLA and join AAP tentatively on October 8.
“Though Reginald’s birthday is on October 5, tomorrow, and he wanted to join AAP on the same day, but due to Pitru Paksha, he has delayed by another two days,” sources revealed.
The news of three times Congress MLA joining AAP has gone viral across South Goa.
The exit of Alexio Reginald Lourenco would be the biggest setback for Congress in Goa.
He is the lone active, vocal MLA of Congress. If he does, he would be the 15th MLA who has decided to leave the party.
Reginald is known for raising different issues of ordinary people inside and outside the assembly.
He was the one to voice out the wrongdoings of fellow party workers and leaders from time to time. He has been into Congress from the day he joined in from the ‘Save Goa’ party way back in 2007 and stood firmly with the party at all times.
Despite his active involvement in raising issues, the Congress party leadership had often ignored him and never gave him a good position when the party was in or out of power.
Today all parties – regional, national and new entrants are eyeing the 3 time MLA as he has a clean image. It is said that BJP too was interested in roping in Reginald, but he has rejected the offer.
As soon as the news broke of Reginald joining AAP, supporters started gathering at Reginald’s house in the early morning.
Few have happily accepted his decision to move from Congress, while a few still convince him not to leave Congress.
When asked for his comments on the rumours, he only said, “I am consulting with my people. Will take a decision only post that.”
