Mumbai: NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani have announced a partnership between the two companies to bring artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to India. The announcement was made at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai, where the “NVIDIA Summit India” event is taking place from October 23-25. Mukesh Ambani highlighted that Jio has become one of the world’s largest data companies, while Jensen Huang stated that Reliance and NVIDIA are building AI infrastructure in India, positioning the country as a global leader in AI.
Welcoming Jensen Huang to India, Mukesh Ambani remarked that, fueled by India’s big dreams and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the country is stepping into a new era of digital transformation. Jensen Huang praised Mukesh Ambani’s efforts to make India a hub for deep technology, recognizing India’s significant potential in IT. He noted, “There are very few countries with as many trained professionals in computer science and IT.” Huang added, “This is an extraordinary time, with India’s abundance of engineers and a large population. I am honored to work with Mukesh Ambani in this partnership.”
In a discussion with Jensen, Mukesh Ambani emphasized that AI should not only reach every Indian but should be made available affordably. He noted that AI should be accessible on current phones and computers, highlighting the responsibility to make this new technology easily reachable, a goal that will be achieved together.
Ambani further mentioned that AI is a knowledge revolution that opens doors to global prosperity. He said that India’s large youth population and PM Narendra Modi’s leadership have been instrumental in transforming the nation into a digital society. Ambani added that India, one of the world’s youngest countries, is rapidly becoming an innovation hub, boasting the world’s best digital connectivity infrastructure.
He concluded by stating that Reliance Jio is now one of the world’s largest data companies, offering data at just 15 cents per GB, compared to $5 per GB in the US. Ambani pointed out the need for a similar revolution in AI, just as Jio achieved in data services.
