MARGAO: Margao District and Sessions Court today has reserved order on anticipatory bail plea of Datta Damodar Naik for Friday afternoon.
Canacona police opposes Datta’s anticipatory bail plea contending that to collect evidence his police custody is required, due to his statement there is tense law and order situation in every part of Goa.
Police said that the presence of applicant/accused person is required at this police station to find out the reason and motive behind above act committed by applicant/accused and to carry out detailed investigation.
“If the applicant/accused is released on anticipatory bail, then there is every possibility that he might commit similar offences in future” the police say
It is submitted that if the applicant/accused is released on bail then there is every possibility that the applicant/accused will threaten the witnesses in the case and the witnesses may turn hostile which will make the prosecution case weak and will hamper the investigation.
Businessman Datta Naik, who has been booked under Section 299 of the BNS by Canacona Police for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, filed for anticipatory bail before the Sessions Court on Wednesday. The Margao District and Sessions Court is scheduled to hear the bail plea on Thursday, January 9.
