The 69-year-old was returning home after picking up his granddaughter from school when a speeding truck struck his bike near the third railway gate, resulting in his untimely death.
A resident of Shahpur, Belgavi, Francis Anthony was a retired Railways officer whose musical talent and dedication to his craft had made him a cherished figure in the community. He was famous for his annual performance of the “Geet Ramayan” at the Shree Ram Temple in the Mestawada area of Vasco, a tradition he maintained for over 35 years.
The “Geet Ramayan” is a series of songs narrating the story of the Ramayana in Marathi. Anthony’s rendition was a highlight of the Ram Navami celebrations, drawing audiences from across Goa. Despite being a Christian, his unique ability to bring the Hindu epic to life through music exemplified cultural harmony and earned him a dedicated fan base.
