PANAJI: The worst fears of Goans being named the SIN CITY seem to have come true as the private companies are projecting Goa as a place for Sex and Gambling.
While we all know how the Government and the private sector promote Goa as a Casino destination, here is an example of how Goa’s image is portrayed as a Sex Destination.
Four years after being directed to withdraw an advertisement from State-run buses, Kadamba Transport Corporation, the Manforce condoms company, has done it again.
The company’s advertisement at the Dabolim airport arrival has a catchy tagline: “Mask is not the only PROTECTION you need in GOA”.
After the advertisement’s picture was posted n social media, several Goans reacted, saying it was an insult to Goa and Goans.
“This is insulting and derogatory for Goa and its people. This is pure objectifying and wrong promotion of Goa which is in an unusually bad taste,” said a social media user.
What teh advertisement actually tries to say is that while there is a need for the mask to protect against the COVID19 virus in Goa, it is not the only protection required.
It tries to say that Goa is a sex destination and people indulging in Sex would require protection with Manforce Condoms, said an activist, who did not want to be named.
In 2017, actress Sunny Leone’s condom ad for Manforce Condoms created a stir in Goa.
The advertisement of Manforce Condoms has Sunny Leone clad in a beautiful red saree, seducing a man. However, Ranaragini, a small wing of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Goa, asked the Government to take the actress’s posters and remove the ads that are promoting birth control.
The protest petition also requested that the Government remove women’s pictures in contraceptive advertisements “to save embarrassment for women and protect their dignity.”
The Goa State Commission directed the state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) to remove condom advertisements from its buses.
The NGO, Ranaragini asked for the removal of women from such ads stating that these ads serve as a source of embarrassment for women moving at public places. The NGO mainly asked to remove Sunny Leone’s condom ads from the Kadamba buses and other public places.
