New Delhi: Multiple attempts of drone intrusions were reported along the Line of Control in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir, raising fresh security concerns along the sensitive frontier. The incidents were detected during routine surveillance, prompting alert responses from troops deployed in the area.
According to inputs, Army personnel fired warning shots after spotting hostile drones close to the Line of Control, forcing them to retreat across the border. Along with the drones, several slow moving aerial objects described as “stars” were also observed near the border. Security officials believe the activity was intended to test surveillance systems and provoke a response from Indian forces.
Although no official statement has been issued so far, defence sources indicated that the pattern of movement suggests deliberate attempts to probe defensive preparedness. The intrusions come at a time when infiltration routes across the Line of Control have largely been blocked due to heavy snowfall across higher reaches of Kashmir. Mountain passes that are typically used for cross border movement remain inaccessible, significantly reducing the scope for physical infiltration.
In this context, the recent drone activity is being viewed as an alternative tactic aimed at sustaining pressure and maintaining tension along the border. Security officials assess that the shift to aerial intrusions reflects an effort to adapt to weather induced constraints on ground based movement.
The prevailing weather conditions have also added to operational challenges for troops stationed along the Line of Control. Extreme cold, difficult terrain, and the risk of avalanches have required adjustments to the anti infiltration grid, with forces balancing constant vigilance against environmental hazards.
This is the second major instance of drone related activity reported in the past two weeks. Similar sightings were earlier reported in the Poonch and Jammu sectors, indicating a wider pattern of aerial surveillance attempts. While some estimates suggest that a large number of drones may have been sighted in the Keran area, these figures have not been officially confirmed.
Following Operation Sindoor, India has strengthened its counter drone capabilities along both the Line of Control and the international border. Enhanced detection systems and rapid response protocols are now in place to counter aerial threats and prevent misuse of drones for reconnaissance or infiltration support.
Security agencies continue to closely monitor the situation, maintaining heightened alertness along the border amid evolving tactics and challenging winter conditions.
