CANACONA – Villagers at Loliem-Polem had called for the immediate attention of PWD to rebuild a precariously lying Culvert bridge.
However, the Culvert bridge poses a serious threat to motorists and vehicles alike if not attended to early.
‘The underneath of this bridge has all its badly rusted Iron rods protruding out as the lower portion of its slab has fallen down over the years. The upper portion of the bridge slab is intact but completely rests on the rusted Iron rods, just like how Bhism in Mahabharat paid down on the Arrows shot on him’, said Vishant Prabhu, a resident of the village.
Locals are piqued that the Culvert Bridge on the village’s internal narrow road at a steep turn also doesn’t have a protection wall, posing a threat to the passing vehicles plummeting down the deep gorge.
‘In the past, PWD engineers were alerted. They have even inspected this bridge but did nothing in the matter, as the authorities are waiting for any calamity to befall on motorists”, Prabhu said.
Incidentally, people expect authorities to propose and construct a new bridge at the site as repairing the existing one may not be possible as its entire lower portion is dangerously placed with badly rusted Iron rods. People have also demanded the erection of Crash-barriers across the steep turn to avoid falling vehicles into the steep gorge below.
