CUNCOLIM: Residents have appealed to the Cuncolim Municipal Council to waive or reduce the sanitary tax demand, including arrears from 2020, stating that the sudden levy has come as a surprise.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Officer, residents said they were not aware of any municipal notification issued during that period, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic had created financial difficulties for many families.
They stated that the demanded amount of Rs 1,400 is high and may not be affordable for several middle-class households. The residents have urged the council to consider waiving or reducing the excess sanitary tax charged.
The representation further expressed hope that the council would take a sympathetic and practical decision, warning that the issue could lead to unrest among residents if not resolved.
The residents have requested the municipal council to look into the matter and provide a suitable resolution at the earliest.
