PORVORIM: In a noteworthy development, the High Court has instructed authorities to reinstate the paddy field at Guirim within a strict deadline of three months.
Non-compliance with this directive will be viewed as an act of disobedience, as stated by Adv. Om D’Costa, who highlighted the situation to the court.
This case arises from a Writ PIL filed concerning the unlawful filling of low-lying agricultural lands in the villages of Socorro, Guirim, and Sangolda.
The petition further demands the long-awaited demolition and restoration of land, in accordance with a previous ruling by the Hon’ble High Court of Goa. Despite this court order, the Goa government has continually requested extensions, delaying the implementation of the directive.
Adv. Om D’Costa stressed that if the authorities fail to carry out the restoration work, it could lead to serious repercussions, as the court has explicitly warned that failure to complete the task will be treated as contempt of court.
The order is intended to safeguard agricultural lands and ensure compliance with the High Court’s directives without any further postponement.
