CANACONA: The khaki uniform is of great respect and police officers should take care that it does not get stained’, said Retired Superintendent of Police Vishnudas Vernekar.
Vernekar was speaking at a program called ‘Daivagya Bhaumanestha’ organized in his honour by the Daivagya Samaj, Margao.
Vallabh Raikar and Yogita Vernekar interacted with him. His wife Lata Vernekar was also present on the platform.
Speaking further Vernekar said that he was naughty as a child, his father was a strict disciplinarian, and this discipline and strictness became helpful for him in his future journey. ‘The khaki uniform inspired me to work for the people and I got good results from it. My first posting was in Canacona. The Chief Minister at that time was Bhausaheb Bandodkar’, and also stated that the work of the police is a public service, and of respectable dignity, and it should be persevered that way by the men-in- Khaki uniform.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that Vishnudas Vernekar was our hero and the pride of the Daivagya community, while MLA Vijay Sardesai said that Vernekar is a perfect example for today’s policemen lower to higher ranks.
BJP state president Damu Naik said that Vishnudas Vernekar is a sage-like person whose feets are worth touching bowing before him to pay him towering respect.
Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai, Harish Madkaikar, Adv. Madhav Bandodkar and Premanand Sangondkar, Varsha Kirtani and other dignitaries also expressed their views. Daivagya Samaj Margao President Ramakant Raikar welcomed. Vernekar is also presented with the Daivagya ‘Bhovamanest’ as token honor.
