PANAJI: Goa government has notified the revised Goa State Shack Policy for Erection of Temporary Seasonal Structures, Beach Shacks, Deck Beds/Umbrellas, for Tourist Seasons 2023-26.
The revised policy contains modifications as suggested by the Shack operators.
As per the revised policy 10% of the total beach shacks on the identified public beach stretches shall be allotted to applicants without any prior experience.
10% to those applicants having minimum of one and maximum four years of experience, in the respective District and remaining absolute numbers of beach shacks are to be allotted to those applicants having minimum of 5 and above years of experience, in the respective District.
Disappointed over the delay in demarcation of areas and allotment of shacks even as the tourism season had already commenced in the State, three shack operators had approached the Court.
They urged the Court to direct the Department of Tourism to start the process of allotting shacks by issuing provisional licences one month before the start of the touristic season, by referring to the government’s tourism policy.
Following joint inspection and assessment conducted with the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has granted permission to erect 359 beach shacks i.e. 254 in beach stretches of North Goa and 105 in South Goa district.
