Panaji: RGP chief Manoj Parab has accused the Goa government of curtailing the Assembly session to push through the ₹30,000 crore state budget without proper discussion, calling it a “murder of democracy.” Speaking to the media, Parab questioned who decided to shorten the session and under whose influence, alleging that the budget’s hurried passage was part of a larger political strategy.
He pointed out that six bills, including key legislation related to land issues, were introduced by RGP MLAs but were not taken up for discussion. Parab criticized the absence of 17 BJP MLAs during the budget vote and said the government’s actions reflected fear of opposition scrutiny.
Parab also highlighted that during his hunger strike, he had been promised a short discussion on Section 39A, which was later denied. He emphasized that passing the budget without debate violated Articles 202 and 203 of the Constitution. He added that RGP has demanded a vote on account and that the session should continue to ensure public concerns are addressed.
The party plans to write to the Election Commission to clarify whether instructions under the Model Code of Conduct apply, noting that other states are conducting Assembly sessions alongside bypolls. Parab further stated that RGP would approach the Governor to request a special Assembly session and criticized ruling MLAs for remaining silent on Section 39A.
This incident has intensified political tensions in Goa, with the opposition pressing for transparency and procedural fairness in the state’s legislative process.
