MORMUGAO:A tragic accident claimed the life of a 23-year-old scooter rider and left his 19-year-old pillion grievously injured, after their vehicle met with a self-fall on the newly constructed flyover in Mormugao.
According to the complaint filed by Police Sub-Inspector Suraj Naik of Mormugao Police Station, the incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 5:00 pm. The deceased, Satyam Patel, a carpenter assistant by profession and resident of near Ganapati Temple at New Vaddem, was riding a Honda Activa (GA-06-Y-0159) in a rash and negligent manner. He was accompanied by pillion rider Sarvesh Patel, aged 19.
The duo, originally from Jamalpur in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, were heading from Ravindra Bhavan towards MPA Mormugao on the new flyover . While descending the flyover, Satyam reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing both rider and pillion to fall off the scooter.
Both sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Chicalim. However, Satyam Patel succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The pillion rider, Sarvesh Patel, was later transferred to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for further medical care.
Mormugao Police registered an offence
under sections 281, 125(b), and 106(1) of BNS 2023
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Stanley Gomes of Mormugao Police Station under the supervision of PI Sherif Jacques and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam
