CANACONA: A rider sustained injuries while his pillion rider escaped unhurt after their scooter plunged into a roadside gorge near Agonda on Tuesday evening.
Sources say that the two brothers from Bhatpal were traveling on their scooter (GA10 D4692) when the accident occurred while negotiating a steep slope at Dumane. According to the pillion rider, the scooter veered to the extreme left and jumped off the road, tumbling into a rocky gorge below. The impact caused the rider to suffer injuries to his legs and hands, while the elder brother riding pillion remained unharmed.
Domestic tourists, riding on 2-3 scooters, witnessed the incident and stopped to help the duo. With the assistance of other motorists, they managed to help the victims out of the gorge and called for an 108 emergency ambulance. The injured rider was then transported to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Canacona for treatment.
The accident occurred just before 7 pm, and it quickly became dark as the ambulance arrived and took the injured man to the health center. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
