PANAJI: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho today said that major reason for rise in accidents in Goa is due to underage riding and driving.
Minister Mauvin was addressing the gathering after inaugural Ceremony of 13th State Road Safety Week 2024.
“Goa is tagged as an accident state, major reasons for accidents in Goa is due to underage riding/driving & tourist driving rent-a-car without any knowledge of driving,” said Godinho
He further said that state government planning on installing night vision cameras throughout Goa.
Godinho said that any person violating the traffic rules will be issued e-challan using AI technology. “E-challan will be issued with photographs, so nobody can later deny their act,” he said.
“It has high definition camera, that will automatically capture clear video and images with Automatic Number Plate recognition of over-speeding vehicles in up to 200 meters in daytime and up to 100 meters in night-time using infrared technology on High Security Number Plate,” he said.
He further informed that training has been imparted to user police.
Godinho said that the department is moving forward to put new signages and is also in the process of procuring 70 alcometers and breath analyzers.
The decision to strengthen road safety rules come against the backdrop of rising accidents in the State, majority of which are due to negligent driving, overspeeding, non-wearing of helmets and drunken driving.
