The 2025 edition of the Asia Cup will be played from September 9 to 28, whereas the two-match Test series between India and the West Indies will start on October 2 in Ahmedabad.
New Delhi: Team India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will miss the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, and his participation in the India vs West Indies Test series also remains uncertain, according to a report published on Thursday (August 7).
Pant, 27, suffered a toe injury while playing a reverse sweep during Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. Though the injury does not require surgery, he has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks, effectively sidelining him from the Asia Cup (September 9–28) and putting a question mark over his availability for the Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad.
Pant missed the fifth Test against England at The Oval (July 31 – August 4), with Dhruv Jurel taking over the wicketkeeping duties. Should Pant remain unfit, Jurel is expected to continue behind the stumps during the West Indies series.
While Pant’s absence in white-ball cricket may not significantly impact India’s Asia Cup campaign — where he is not the first-choice keeper — his unavailability for the red-ball format will be a major blow. In the recent Test series, Pant scored 479 runs in four matches, including two centuries and three fifties, showcasing his crucial role in the batting lineup.
