BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has raised concern over the increasing number of patients at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB). The hospital currently cares for approximately 300-350 patients across 10-12 centers operated by Provedoria.
Dr. Sawant noted that many patients have been abandoned by their families, with some relatives leaving loved ones at the hospital and never returning. “It is not just physical health but mental health that is very important today,” he said, emphasizing the growing need for awareness and support for mental health in the state.
The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight the challenges faced by mental health institutions in Goa and underline the importance of community involvement alongside government care in addressing mental health issues.
Sawant announced the ‘Mhaje Ghar’ scheme, aimed at improving the happiness index and providing mental peace to residents.
The scheme, with application forms available from Monday, is designed to protect the homes of people living under the fear of demolition.
“This initiative will help people live peacefully in their own houses,” the CM said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to social security and the well-being of Goans.
