CANACONA: Rising Star Agonda and Loliem Tigers produced powerful performances to secure emphatic victories in their respective league encounters of the first Chetan Manju Desai Leather Ball T20 Cricket Tournament played at the GCA Grounds in Maxem, Canacona.
In the opening match, Rising Star Agonda put up a competitive total after being asked to bat first. The team posted 163 runs for the loss of seven wickets, built on impressive contributions from their top order. Amrut Zalmi led the scoring with a fluent 68 runs from 42 balls, while Sandy Velip supported well with 49 runs off 31 deliveries. Bijay Pagi also added valuable runs, contributing 23 from 22 balls to strengthen the innings.
Royal Tigers Faskali struggled to cope with the disciplined bowling attack of Rising Star Agonda while chasing the target. The batting lineup collapsed under pressure and the side was dismissed for just 49 runs. Rising Star Agonda secured a convincing victory by a margin of 114 runs.
All rounder Sandy Velip delivered a standout performance and was named Player of the Match. Along with his valuable knock with the bat, he dismantled the opposition batting order by claiming five wickets for 22 runs. Pranai Velip also bowled an excellent spell, delivering two maiden overs while conceding only five runs and picking up key wickets.
In another match of the tournament, Loliem Tigers produced a dominant batting display to overwhelm Hands Fighters Tarir. Loliem Tigers piled up a massive total of 258 runs for the loss of three wickets. Santosh Satardkar led the charge with a superb 84 runs from 49 balls, striking seven sixes and six boundaries. Yash Prabhugaonkar added a quick 51 from 28 balls, while Animesh Prabhu played a rapid innings of 37 runs from just 14 balls.
Chasing a daunting target, Hands Fighters Tarir managed 105 runs for six wickets in their allotted overs. Santosh Satardkar was named Player of the Match for his all round effort, while Ram Dhuri also chipped in with crucial wickets to ensure Loliem Tigers sealed a commanding victory by 153 runs.
