Panaji: The fourth day of the 1st Chetan Manju Desai Leather Ball T20 Cricket Tournament witnessed two dominant performances as Rising Star Agonda and Jana Sena Warriors secured convincing wins in their respective league matches held at the GCA Grounds Mashem.
In the opening match of the day, Rising Star Agonda delivered an impressive all round performance to defeat Cotigao Warriors by 88 runs. Batting first, Rising Star Agonda posted a strong total of 175 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Mahendra Velip, who played a superb knock of 68 runs from 47 balls, striking nine boundaries and a towering six.
Sandy Velip also made a significant contribution with the bat, scoring a quick 53 off 36 balls that included nine boundaries. His outstanding effort earned him the Player of the Match award and helped the team set a challenging target.
In response, Cotigao Warriors struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for just 87 runs in 18.3 overs. Pralhad Gaonkar was the only batter to offer resistance with a fighting 30 off 28 balls, hitting two sixes and three boundaries.
The Rising Star Agonda bowlers dominated the innings, with Adarsh Velip and Gana claiming three wickets each. Pranai Velip also played a key role by taking two wickets, completing the comprehensive victory for the Agonda side.
In the second match, Jana Sena Warriors produced another commanding performance to defeat Patnem Colomb Avengers by 89 runs. Jana Sena Warriors posted 184 for 5 in their 20 overs, thanks to solid contributions from Pranav Kamat, who scored 37 off 30 balls with seven boundaries. Vaibhav Naik added 31 from 23 deliveries, while Viraj Puranik contributed 27 off 19 balls with four boundaries.
Chasing the target, Patnem Colomb Avengers failed to settle at the crease and were dismissed for 95 runs in 15.2 overs. Viraj Puranik delivered a match winning performance with the ball, taking three crucial wickets and earning the Player of the Match award for his all round contribution.
