BICHOLIM: Roadside vendors have been on the rise in recent times in the panchayat area with no check on them by the authorities.
It may be stated that the surrounding panchayats roads of Bicholim have become a market area with several roadside vendors squatting to sell their products.
The worst case is Mayem and Karapur Sarvan, where at least eight to ten vendors were seen sitting throughout the day.
“There is no check by the panchayat on these vendors. They come in their cars and sell their goods after parking by the roadside,” Mahesh Govenkar from Bicholim complained.
These vendors have selected the area after Pajwada road while going towards Mayem lake as their destination. The same is the case in Karapur Sarvan panchayat, where these vendors cover the entire stretch from Zantye college to old PWD.
These vendors include those selling fruits and vegetables, while some sell garments and other such products.
“People wait here to buy things which creates a hindrance to the smooth flow of traffic. There is also the possibility of an accident happening because of these vendors,” Govekae told.
At Mayem just recently, these activities have been on the rise. “Earlier when I had raised my voice and had complained to the police that these vendors were removed. But soon, they came back. We request the concerned panchayats to look into the matter,” Govekar said.
