PANAJI: GPCC Media Chairman Amarnath Panjikar hit out at the BJP Government for collapsing law and order in the state after the office of party in power itself was targeted by robbers.
“The theft reported at the BJP office in Sankhlim has exposed the police system of the state, which is handled by Pramod Sawant, who also holds Home Portfolio. With this robbery it is evident that law and order in Goa has collapsed,” Panjikar said.
“If the ruling party’s own offices are not safe, it speaks volumes about the current state of policing and governance in Goa. Every passing day robberies along with other crimes are happening and this incapacitated government has no control over it,” Panjikar pointed out.
He said that Chain snatchings, daylight robberies in urban areas, drug-related violence and increased trade of narcotics across Goa, assaults, burglaries, and gang-related crimes are happening due to failures of the BJP government.
“Despite repeated assurances, the state government has failed to ensure basic public safety. The police force is understaffed, under-equipped, and increasingly politicized, functioning more to protect the powerful than the public,” Panjikar alleged.
“The incident at Sankhlim is a clear embarrassment for the Chief Minister. The people of Goa deserve answers and urgent corrective measures,” he said.
He said immediate investigation and accountability in the Sankhlim theft is needed.
“There is a need to strengthen local police stations with manpower and resources. Police are seen doing Nakabandis only after crimes have happened. Patrolling of Goa police has miserably failed. This could be one of the reasons why robbers find it easy to target houses and business establishments,” Panjikar said .
“Goa cannot afford to slide further into lawlessness. The safety of our citizens must be the government’s top priority – not hollow PR and political spin. Enough is enough. The Chief Minister must act decisively for the safety of Goans,” stated Amarnath Panjikar
