PANAJI: The inaugural Legends Pro T20 League is preparing for a grand debut with a powerhouse roster of former international stars. Chris Gayle, Jacques Kallis, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu and Stuart Binny have all confirmed their participation, adding to the growing anticipation surrounding the tournament. The league continues to evolve into a reunion of players whose careers intersected through memorable partnerships, rivalries and shared victories across the cricketing world.
Chris Gayle shared that many of his fondest cricketing moments involve players who will be part of the league. He recalled the challenge of facing Kallis during his prime, technical conversations with Uthappa about batting rhythm and the light-hearted exchanges he enjoyed with Rayudu. He said the return of familiar names, including Shikhar Dhawan and Shane Watson, brings back the humour, competitiveness and respect that defined their playing days.
Jacques Kallis reflected on the joy of returning to the sport after time away, noting how the simple feel of the bat and the rhythm of timing reignite a deep connection. He also highlighted that Michael Clarke’s role as league commissioner introduces a sense of professionalism and fresh direction, strengthening the foundation for a successful first season.
Robin Uthappa spoke about the comfort of reconnecting with players who shaped different phases of his journey. He recalled competing against Rayudu, then later sharing dressing rooms with him, and emphasised his long-standing rapport with Dinesh Karthik dating back to their Under-19 days. Without the pressure of franchise standings, he said the league offers a refreshing opportunity to enjoy cricket and revisit enduring friendships.
Ambati Rayudu noted that being surrounded by players he has faced in high-stakes matches or shared trophies with reminds him of the spirit that binds the sport. He reflected on tough contests with Binny, long net sessions with Uthappa and memorable on-field battles with Gayle, while acknowledging the familiarity of seeing Amit Mishra and Vinay Kumar in the mix.
Stuart Binny described the league as a chance to return to a shared world built on trust, learning and laughter. He recalled receiving batting insights from Kallis, listening to Gayle’s entertaining stories and engaging in spirited discussions with Monty Panesar. He said the atmosphere itself makes the reunion meaningful and adds to the excitement surrounding the season.
