PANAJI: Rohit Monserrate has been re-elected as the Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), extending his tenure in a historic sixth term. With this, he continues his unprecedented run, having already completed five consecutive years in the top post.
The mayoral election took place during the first meeting of the newly formed council on Monday at 11 am. As no other nominations were filed for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Monserrate and Vasant Agshikar were elected unopposed.
The proceedings followed the oath-taking ceremony of all newly elected corporators, marking the formal constitution of the new CCP council. Alongside the leadership elections, the meeting also initiated the formation of key statutory committees, including the standing committee and other consultative bodies, in accordance with the City of Panaji Corporation Act.
CCP corporator Uday Madkaikar noted that Monserrate’s latest win sets a new benchmark, making him the only leader to be elected Mayor of the CCP six times.
Monserrate is expected to continue in office until the upcoming Goa Assembly elections scheduled for early 2027, where he is also likely to contest.
