PANAJI: Rohit Monserrate and Sanjeev Naik have been re-elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP), respectively.
Only one nomination each was received from Monserrate for the Mayor’s post and from Naik for the Deputy Mayor’s post.
Monserrate has been declared elected for the third consecutive year, while Naik was re-elected for the second time.
Since there are no other contestants, the duo was declared elected unopposed after scrutiny of their nominations on Thursday.
Monserrate, who is the current Mayor, has been nominated for the post for the third consecutive year, while Naik has been nominated for the second successive year to the post of Deputy Mayor.
Monserrate’s nomination was proposed by Councillor Shubham Chodankar and seconded by Asmita Kerkar, while Councillors Narsinvha Morajkar and Santosh Surlikar proposed and seconded Naik’s nomination.
As per the CCP Act, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are to be elected every year. In the CCP elections held in March 2021, the panel supported by Revenue Minister Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate swept the elections by winning 25 seats in the 30-Member Corporation.
