New Delhi: Veteran Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has expressed his intention to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October-November 2027. The comment comes shortly after Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025, and T20Is after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in June 2024.
In a recent interview now going viral on social media, Rohit addressed the possibility of participating in the next ODI World Cup. When asked whether he was aiming for the 2027 tournament to complete the “unfinished business” of 2023, he responded:
“Jehan mein bilkul hai (It’s definitely in my mind). Bilkul khelna chahenge (Definitely want to play). Acha rahega agar aisa raha toh (It will be good if that happens).”
Rohit, who continues to be available for selection in ODIs, has already represented India in three ODI World Cups—2015, 2019, and 2023. He holds the record for the most centuries in ODI World Cup history and was the leading run-scorer in the 2019 edition held in England and Wales. In the 2023 tournament hosted by India, Rohit scored 597 runs and led India to 10 consecutive wins, securing a spot in the final.
However, India’s dream run in 2023 ended in heartbreak, as they lost the final to Australia by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. Despite the loss, Rohit was widely praised for his aggressive captaincy and leadership throughout the campaign.
Earlier this year, Rohit also captained India to victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, further solidifying his legacy as one of India’s most successful white-ball captains.
With his eyes now set on 2027, Rohit Sharma appears motivated to continue his ODI journey and possibly script one final chapter in his illustrious international career.
