New Delhi: As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 heats up in Dubai, India’s captain Rohit Sharma is facing a critical moment with a hamstring injury, casting uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming match against New Zealand on March 2. The injury, sustained during India’s thrilling victory over Pakistan last Sunday, has left Sharma cautious about his training regimen. Despite his initial reassurances, Sharma opted out of an intense batting session on Wednesday, choosing instead to jog gently under the supervision of the team’s strength and conditioning coach.
Sharma’s absence from the nets was notable, especially as his teammates engaged in rigorous practice sessions. His opening partner, Shubman Gill, also missed the practice due to illness, adding to India’s concerns ahead of the crucial match against New Zealand. The winner of this encounter will top Group A, setting the stage for the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami, who had left the field during the Pakistan match due to an ankle issue, has alleviated fitness concerns by bowling at full pace during the net sessions. Rishabh Pant, who had been recovering from a fever, participated in batting drills, providing some relief for the team.
Given these fitness challenges, India might consider resting some players to ensure they are in top shape for the semifinals. The team has so far fielded the same XI in their first two matches, securing victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan.
