MOPA: A Romanian national was booked by Mopa Airport Police on Thursday for allegedly carrying a prohibited satellite phone without mandatory permission.
According to police, Mopa Airport PS registered Cr. No. 52/2025 at 6.25 am on December 11 under Section 3 read with Section 6(1A) of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, following a complaint by SI/Exe Vipin Kumar Gohar of CISF ASG Unit, Manohar International Airport.
At around 3.02 am, during security screening at the international SHA, the CISF detected an Inmarsat satellite phone inside the handbag of the accused passenger Alexandru Liono (45), a Romanian national, who was scheduled to fly to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR 523 at 4.10 am.
Police said that satellite phones are prohibited for use in India without proper authorisation, and the passenger failed to produce any licence or permission from the competent authority. The device was seized and an offence was registered. Further investigation is underway.
