PANAJI: In a new twist to the Anjuna nightclub assault case, the General Manager of Romeo Lane, Rakesh Sahani, has claimed that the tourists involved were responsible for creating chaos inside the club before the altercation took place.
According to Sahani, the group allegedly consumed drinks from other tables and turned aggressive when a waiter objected, even threatening to “purchase the waiter.” He further claimed that the tourists verbally and physically abused the staff when they were stopped from entering a restricted back area, citing CCTV footage as evidence.
Responding to reports of injuries sustained by the tourists, Sahani said they occurred while the group was being escorted out by the bouncers through a narrow passage at the club entrance.
The incident, which took place on Sunday at the Vagator-based nightclub, drew widespread outrage after videos of injured tourists, including young women, surfaced online. Goa Police have since launched an investigation and are set to hold a meeting with hospitality stakeholders to ensure proper handling of such incidents in the future.
