CANACONA: It’s chaotic! With accommodation, availability has become a rare commodity; post-Christmas, Canacona Beach Coasts chokes up with a horde of domestic tourists arriving to witness the onset of New Year.
Beginning three days ago, many domestic tourists arriving in the taluka were seen scurrying around to find rooms. Some found none have converted their vehicles to make-shift accommodations/rooms.
According to Shacks and Huts Owners, there has been an unusual rush of domestic tourists arriving in the taluka, looking for Rooms/Accommodation for the last three days. ‘We are told accommodation is also full in the rest of the State’s Coast sides. People were badly asking for rooms to accommodate them, but none could help them, with some still accommodating a few by making temporary arrangements. A few domestic Tourists were seen staying their night in their vehicles after parking the same on beach Coasts or some isolated places. Some were even seen taking their Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch, making halts on the roadside or squatting outside their transportation.’
‘We have no option but to pass the night in our vehicle itself, and we expect to do the same this 32nd night’ after enjoying the midnight at one of the new year party locations”, informed a tourist seen having breakfast sitting outside their car on Agonda beach coast.
While the beach approach, Roads are almost non-approachable with traffic snarls at every minute, and police have a tough time controlling and managing vehicles, particularly entering the world-famous Palolem beach.
The traffic brunt is more at Palolem, mostly having narrow streets and not many parking spaces have made an earnest request with Canacona Traffic police to make adequate traffic arrangements.
“We kindly request the Goa Police traffic cell to make adequate arrangements for the traffic today, the 31st & 1st of January. The Palolem Beach road the last few days was jam-packed. Those hotels that can provide parking spaces may be allowed to pass with inquiries with the said owner. The vehicles must not be allowed to pass beyond the road Junction at the entry to Palolem-Ourem-Patnem’,” they said.
Incidentally, while a few policemen are deputed for traffic arrangements, teams of traffic personnel standing at some strategic places were seen stopping every passing vehicle, especially all the non-Goan registration vehicles, with many domestic Tourists alleging police, mainly traffic police arrangements.
According to reports, accommodation availability is also a rare commodity till 2nd January, even at the remote and iconic beach Coasts of Khola, besides Galgibaga and Polem beach Coasts in Canacona.
