PANAJI: Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, emerged champions of the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Football Championship 2025-26 after defeating defending champions Don Bosco College, Panjim, in a thrilling tie-breaker at SAG Athletics Stadium, Bambolim. The final score in the tie-breaker stood at 2-0, following a goalless full-time result of 0-0.
The final match saw a fierce contest between the two sides. Rosary College adopted an aggressive attacking strategy from the start, while Don Bosco focused on a resilient defensive approach. Despite several scoring opportunities from Rosary in the first half, the teams remained deadlocked at 0-0. The second half intensified as both sides pushed for a breakthrough. Don Bosco’s goalkeeper, Flani Costa, made several crucial saves, while Rosary attackers continued to press, ultimately leaving the scoreline unchanged at full-time.
The championship was decided through a nail-biting tie-breaker. Rosary goalkeeper Ria Rajesh and Don Bosco’s Flani Costa traded saves on their respective opening attempts. Rosary’s second shooter, Fatima Braganza, scored to give Navelim a 1-0 lead, followed by Swellen Fernandes extending the advantage to 2-0. Don Bosco’s players were unable to convert their opportunities, handing Rosary the victory and the championship trophy.
Ms. Vinoshka Fernandes of Rosary College was named Best Player of the tournament. She was the championship’s highest scorer with five goals and made significant contributions to her team’s overall success through her skillful play.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Ms. Maymol Rocky, football coach at the Sports Authority of Goa, and Guests of Honor Mr. Ryan Pereira, Director of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, and Mr. Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. Medals and trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up, marking a memorable conclusion to an exhilarating championship.
