CANACONA: Palolem Warriors, Mallikarjun Gaondongrim, Young Marathas, Royal Tigers Faskali and Arya Strikers emerged victorious in their respective league matches of the 1st Chetan Manju Desai Leather Ball T20 Cricket Tournament played at the GCA Grounds in Mashem, Canacona.
Palolem Warriors secured an eight wicket victory over Patnem Colomb Avengers. Batting first, Patnem Colomb Avengers managed 78 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs, with Sairaj Naik contributing 26 runs. Gautamesh Pagi delivered an impressive bowling spell, claiming three wickets for 25 runs, while Sameer Pagi bowled two maiden overs and picked up two wickets conceding just six runs. In reply, Palolem Warriors chased the target comfortably, scoring 81 for two in 10.5 overs. Vikrant Pagi scored 40 while Sweekar Pagi added 32.
Mallikarjun Gaondongrim recorded a five wicket win against Shivneri Strikers. Shivneri Strikers were bowled out for 77 in 17.7 overs after Mallikarjun Gaondongrim opted to field first. Piyush Devdidas led the bowling effort with four wickets for 10 runs, supported by Sandesh Velip who took three wickets for 17 runs. Mallikarjun Gaondongrim then chased down the target of 80, with Abhishek Kankonkar scoring 31 and Sanket Gaonkar contributing 24.
Young Marathas produced a dominant performance against Arya Strikers. Arya Strikers were dismissed for 52 in 16 overs. Uday Shet Desai starred with the ball, taking four wickets for eight runs, while Vishwajeet Shet Desai and Akshay Bhandari chipped in with three and two wickets respectively. Young Marathas comfortably reached 53 without losing a wicket in just 5.4 overs, with Saiesh Naik Gaonkar scoring 31 and Naresh Naik adding 19.
Royal Tigers Faskali delivered the most commanding performance of the day, defeating Cotigao Yuwa Warriors by a massive 177 runs. Batting first, Royal Tigers piled up 233 for six in 18 overs. Sairaj Desai smashed 79 off 48 balls with two sixes and 13 boundaries, while Sahil Phaldesai scored 61 off 41 balls and Sajal Naik added a quick 34. Cotigao Yuwa Warriors were later bowled out for 56 in 12.1 overs.
In another match, Arya Strikers defeated Panyafond Mangan Stars by four wickets. Panyafond Mangan Stars scored 106 in 20 overs with Ajit Tari making 23 and Naresh Pagi adding 22. Arya Strikers chased down the target with 108 for six in 17.3 overs. Atharv Devidas was named player of the match after claiming four wickets for 14 runs.
