CANACONA: Royal Warriors defeated Palolem Warriors in a thrilling finals of Canacona Media Chasak, a Canacona level Tennis Ball Cricket tournament.
Winning the toss Palolem Warriors asked Royal Warriors to bat first and at the beginning Royal Warriors found it difficult to score, but slowly built up a respectable total of 71 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 6 overs.
In reply Palolem Warriors could garner only 41 for the loss of 8 wickets with Royal Warriors winning the trophy and cash purse of Rs.1,77,777/- by 30 runs.
Punaji Kalangutkar scored an important knock of 31(19) and Vishant P contributed 17(8) with Gauresh N taking 3 wickets giving away 17 in his 2 overs and Saish Kamat got 1 wicket giving away 22 runs.
Palolem Warriors star batsman Imran Mulla scored 16 off 8 balls, while Royal Warriors Rajat took three wickets for 17 runs, Vishwadeep got 2 runs giving away just 3 runs, and Sahil and Babu C contributed with 1 wicket each.
Earlier in the Semis Royal Warriors defeated Arya Strikers in Qualifier I, while Palolem Warriors got the better of Arya Strikers in a high tension II Qualifier match, with Palolem Palolem Warriors defeated Parvati Parivar in the Eliminator to set up the Qualifier II clash Arya Strikers.
Royal Warriors also won the Canaocna Media Chasak 1.0 last year.
Including Canacona media team, 12 teams earlier fought in the league matches in group A and group B as Arya Strikers topped group A and Royal Warriors topped group B to contgest for Qualifier I match and Palolem Warriors and Parvati Parivar being the second teams to qualify for Eliminator round.
Canacona Media Chasak organized by Navi Disha Publications in collaboration with City Plus Goa, and RDmix is won by Royal Warriors for the second time winning a purse of Rs. 1,77,777 and a magnificent trophy, while the runner-up Palolem Warriors got ritcher by Rs. 86,666 and a trophy. Arya Strikers in the third place were awarded cash of Rs. 33,333 and a trophy, while the fourth placed Parvati Parivar team had to be content with Rs. 17,777 and a smaller version of the trophy.
The Best Batsman of the Tournament Suraj Gaude (Arya Strikers) got Rs.5555 and a Trophy, Rajat Komarpant (Royal Warriors) was adjudged as the Best Bowler of the Tournament and awarded a cheque of Rs.5555 and a Trophy. Man of the series awarded to Saish Kamat (Palolem Warriors) got richer by Rs 11111 and trophy.
Canacona Municipality Chairperson Sara Shambha Naik Desai, Chairpersons Ramakant Naik Gaunkar, Simon Rebelo, Gaondongrim Sarpanch Dhillon (Yeshwant) Desai, Agonda Panchayat Sarpanch Nilesh Pagi, Panch Fatima Rodrigues, Canaocna Patrakar Sangh President Babesh Borkar witnessed the finals and were present at the prize distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, CMC Chairperson Sara Shambha Desai praised the organizers for providing a sporting feast to cricket lovers in Canacona and giving the emerging cricketers from the villages the opportunity to play with other renowned players. She also expressed her happiness that the tradition of giving the biggest prize in her career is now being enjoyed by the residents of Canacona through the Canacona Media Cup competition.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaondongrim Sarpanch Dhillon Desai said that when playing on the field, there are always victories and defeats. He appealed to the defeated team not to get upset because when one team wins, the other team has to prepare and work even harder and cooperate with others to reach higher positions.
