PANAJI: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho today has proposed to increase accident victim compensation from ₹2L to ₹10L under Smart City initiatives to better support affected families.
Minister for Transport, Mauvin Godinho chaired the State Road Safety Council meeting at the Conference Hall, Secretariat, Porvorim, to address critical road safety challenges.
“Have proposed to increase accident victim compensation from ₹2L to ₹10L under Smart City initiatives to better support affected families,” said Godinho
“We reviewed accident-prone black spots identified earlier, many of which are already being addressed and are set to be rectified by March 2025. Departments were directed to analyze the primary causes of accidents, such as careless driving and drunk driving, and implement corrective measures immediately,” he added
Godinho said that given Goa’s classification as an accident-prone state, urgent action is essential. I proposed increasing accident victim compensation from ₹2L to ₹10L under Smart City initiatives to better support affected families.
Key discussions included tackling stray cattle on roads, enhancing ambulance services for quicker response times, and enforcing regulations on heavy machinery movement during peak hours. I also emphasized the importance of pubs and bars promoting app-based taxi services to curb drunk driving fatalities.
“To build public awareness, I urged continuous campaigns through short films, jingles, and effective road safety signage. Additionally, the Animal Husbandry Department was requested to submit a plan to address stray cattle issues,” he added
While progress since the last meeting is evident, much work remains. Godinho has asked all departments to present actionable solutions and a clear roadmap for the next meeting.
“Thank you to all the officials for their presence and valuable suggestions towards making our roads safer for Goans and ensuring a secure and efficient transport environment for everyone,” he added
