Hyderabad: At midnight on Friday, May 10, as a DCM vehicle was travelling on the national highway close to Balanagar in the Mahabubnagar district, the Telangana police confiscated liquor valued at Rs 2.07 cr.
Cops confiscated 2000 bottles (about 17,000 litres) of Royal Blue, Royal Queen brand spirits, which they claimed was being carried to Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, to lure voters and influence election results. The spirits were packed into 48 crates.
According to the authorities, the illegal booze was loaded into the car with assistance from a man named Jacob in Goa. Fertiliser bags covered the alcohol.
According to the timetable issued by the ECI, Andhra Pradesh will cast ballots for the AP Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
