New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday described it as a privilege to witness the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), praising the organisation for its resilience and unwavering commitment to the nation despite decades of challenges.
Speaking at the Sangh’s 100-year celebrations, the Prime Minister said the organisation endured false cases, attempts to ban it, and other hurdles, yet never responded with hostility.
“The RSS has never been bitter, despite repeated attempts to impose bans or frame false cases. We are part of a society that accepts both the good and the bad,” he said.
Modi credited the Sangh with playing a role in India’s freedom struggle, noting that it had fought against British atrocities and always prioritised the nation’s interest above all.
“There have been many attempts to crush the spirit of the RSS and to level baseless allegations. But the Sangh has never acted with revenge in mind,” he added.
The remarks came as lakhs of volunteers and supporters marked the organisation’s 100th year, reflecting on its journey from a small initiative in Nagpur in 1925 to becoming one of the country’s most influential socio-cultural groups.
