Rumdamol: The scheduled election for the posts of Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of the Rumdamol Village Panchayat was unexpectedly postponed on August 4 after the Presiding Officer failed to turn up, triggering sharp reactions and allegations of political manipulation from several panchayat members.
Expressing deep disappointment, members of the panchayat alleged that the postponement was not accidental but part of a deliberate ploy by a local BJP leader to delay the formation of the new panchayat body. According to them, the move is linked to attempts to regularise the sale and development of communidade land that the panchayat had stayed earlier due to lack of proper title deeds.
“The intention behind stalling the process is clear — it’s to pave the way for illegal construction licences on land that has no valid ownership documents,” said one of the aggrieved members.
The members have demanded that the election be rescheduled immediately and that strict action be taken against those attempting to undermine the democratic functioning of the panchayat for personal or political gain.
